A reconstructive plastic surgeon in the NHS until 2018 during which time he established and led the South Wales Sarcoma Service, Hamish was Executive Medical Director and Chief Information Officer of an integrated Health Board in NHS Wales. He was awarded Senior Founding Fellowship of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management in recognition of his contribution to the UK NHS and Fellowship of the Faculty of Clinical Informatics.
Appointed to a personal chair in the School of Management in 2018, Hamish has established a programme focussed on Value-Based Healthcare which led to his appointment in 2021 as Director of the Value-Based Health and Care (VBHC) Academy, part of the Welsh Government Intensive Learning Academy Programme. Hamish represents Wales at the EFPIA Value-Based Healthcare think-tank in Brussels and through the Academy provides consultancy on VBHC implementation to health systems and the life science industry globally.
Hamish is passionate about the importance of Digital Inclusion and ensuring that people are not left behind by the digital revolution particularly in healthcare. He is delighted to have been appointed chair of the Digital Inclusion Alliance for Wales which brings together public, private and third sector organisations to co-ordinate action and policy for Digital Inclusion.
Hamish continues to support colleagues in NHS Wales and until 2021 was Senior responsible Owner (SRO) for a programme to rationalise and rebuild all the NHS websites and is deputy chair of the Welsh Government’s Digital Services for patients and the Public Programme (DSPP); a major investment in helping citizens to engage with their health and wellbeing digitally.
Hamish was appointed a non-Executive Director of Life Science Hub Wales Ltd. by the Minister for Health and Social Care in 2021.
